We All Need To Play Our Part

West and East Horsley Parish Councils have set up a Joint Climate Change Task Group, recognising that we all need to play our part in the Climate Change Emergency by raising awareness of this critical issue across the village.  Our aim is to identify actions that we can all take to help work towards achieving the national net zero carbon emissions targets set for 2030 and 2050.

The Task Group is currently running a series of FREE Climate Change events, full details of which are available in the Events pages of our website.

Task Group Objectives

The group currently comprises members of WHPC and local volunteers who have a particular interest in different aspects of Climate Change and Biodiversity. Our Youth Council are also very involved in this topic and are looking at projects that families can take part in at home to involve all ages. We are also working closely with East Horsley Parish Council, sharing resources and projects.

Our objectives are to:

· Raise awareness across the village of what we can each do to reduce carbon emissions and our carbon footprint,

· Communicate ideas and opportunities that can we can adopt to minimise our impact on the environment,

· Identify and promote opportunities to increase biodiversity within the village.

It is very much about ‘winning hearts and minds’, getting everyone aware and involved.

Network of Neighbouring Parish Councils

Additionally, WHPC is part of a local Climate Change Network Group of Parish Councils, set up by Councillor Young, which meets quarterly to share ideas and best practice.  Members of this group include East & West Horsley, East & West Clandon, Ockham, Ripley, Send and Effingham. Minutes from these meetings will in future be published on our website.
