West Horsley is a wonderful historic rural village and gateway to the Surrey Hills located between Guildford and Cobham. We first appeared in the Doomsday Book of 1086. We have many beautiful listed and historic houses including West Horsley Place, a Medieval manor house dating back to1425. In addition, we have an internationally renowned Opera House on the same grounds, Grange Park Opera. Our village location is on the A246, and south of the M25 and the A3. Our boundaries as a civil parish ascends to our ancient woodland “Sheepleas Woods” which are on the northern downslopes of hills known as the North Downs. The bulk of the village is north of the Surrey Hills AONB, the rest is within it. Our 500-year-old Oak tree marks the centre of our linear style village and network of countryside walks. Our transport network is South Western Railways via Horsley Station, 10 Mins to Guildford, 7 mins to Cobham, and we are only 45mins from London Waterloo Station.

Ukraine Crisis

The Parish Council, like so many residents, is distraught at the atrocities in Ukraine. We have been asked how people may donate and offer their homes to Ukrainian refugees. It is for individuals to decide to whom they wish to make donations. Unfortunately, Parish Councils by statute are prevented from making donations however worthwhile the cause. There has been a national appeal for donations to the Disaster Emergencies Committee ([email protected]) which brings together a number of aid charities so it may be worth residents considering this organisation. In the meantime, the Parish Council has been in touch with GBC on the question of supporting refugees and is awaiting guidance. As soon as it is received , it will be published on our website.
