Horsley Heritage Group

Introduction

Horsley Heritage Group (HHG) was formed in 2024 to address village heritage following the winding up of the Horsley Countryside Preservation Society. The group has the support of both West and East Horsley Parish Councils. The key areas of activity proposed are:

  • Bringing together, storing and presenting documents of local historical interest
  • Supporting the conservation of local heritage assets where possible

 Secure Archives

A considerable amount of information has already been collated by HHG, including books, leaflets, maps, photographs etc. It will be stored safely in the East Horsley Parish Council's office, on the first floor of the Village Hall. If you possess and old documents, photographs, maps about the village which you think may be of historic interest, please contact us at clerk@westhorsley.info.

Heritage Conservation

There are 90 structure listed by Historic England across West and East Horsley, all of which are identified in the respective West and East Horsley Neighbourhood Plans. HHG will do all it can to ensure the significance attributed to heritage assets is given due weight when determining future planning applications.

HHG is also currently working on a plan to introduce a Blue Plaque Scheme to identify buildings of significant historical interest, and to raise awareness of the range and quality of heritage assets across the Horsleys for the interest and enlightenment of both residents and visitors.
